2011 Draft Prospect:: Marcel Noebels

Statistics (2010-2011): Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL): 66GP 28G 26A 54P -11

Although the 6'3" 200lbs powerforward Marcel Nobels was passed over in last years draft, I would say that he has a very good call of being drafted in the middle rounds of this years draft. Given that he was on a very weak Seattle team that didn't quite make it to the playoffs, Noebels had a very good year in the WHL. He was second on his team in goals with 28 and was third in team scoring. Given that he played less games and is younger the the two players ahead of him, thats pretty good. Good enough to be second in WHL rookie goal scoring and fifth in points. It's also worth mentioning that he is probably the best 5 on 5 producer on his team since only 7 of his goals were scored on the powerplay. By comparison, tema leading Burke Gallimore has 22 powerplay goals. His -11 is actually pretty good considering that the average rating for his team was around -18.

What I really like about Noebels is that he uses his size well and doesn't shy away from the physical play. I would be pretty happy with Noebels with Edmonton's or Calgary's third round pick in this years draft. For more great information on Marcel Nobels check out nhl.com from a little while back. He finished ranked 49th on CSS's final rankings.
