Thank You Dustin Penner

Thank You Dustin Penner for getting us a mid first round pick. With Colten Teubert AND a first round pick, Steve Tambelleni is looking pretty smart. The Los Angeles Kings were eliminated last night by the San Jose Sharks and now the Edmonton Oilers have locked down the 19th overall draft pick in this years NHL entry draft. Thats not to say that they draft pick cannot get any better. If any or all of Montreal, Buffalo, or Chicago make it to their respective conference finals the pick will improve. If any of these teams advance to the next round but lose, then they pick will stay where it is now. Here is a great article explaining how the draft actually works. It basically states:

1. That all 14 teams that do not make the playoffs select based on standings.
2. The stanley cup winner picks 30th. The runner up picks 29th.
3. The conference finalists pick 27th and 28th.
4. The regular season division leaders hold the lowest positions.
5. The remaining teams pick based on regular season standings.

After reading redlines report that states that after 20 their is a drop off in the draft.
